San Francisco Co-Working Facility Outline
As a part of working towards our initiatives to increase public participation in exploration, a preliminary design for a physical space in downtown San Francisco is currently under development. This space may serve as a co-working facility, a mini-NASA visitor center, or an events locale, or any combination of these. Specific ideas include:
Co-working
Co-working is an informal community/collaboration space for developers, writers and independent entrepreneurs. With application to NASA, CoLab hopes to create a space where not only NASA scientists and engineers, but people from other organizations can work together to share each other’s resources in a beneficial and symbiotic manner.
Mini-visitor Center
An “Experiential Visitor’s Center” would provide easy-to-access, compelling public experiences of NASA’s work through rotating exhibits and experiences, especially those that are directly related to projects co-created at CoLab.
Project Facilitation
A phsyical facility would be an integral part of Project Facilitation (in a physical and virtual hub) for the germination of new public-private, space-related projects at the early ideation and research phase
Event Hub
A San Francisco Office and Event Hub for NASA would be more local and accessible to many prospective government, community, and industry partners headquartered in San Francisco. This would have high public visibility in a cultural and media center.
